Issues We Support

We support equal opportunity for every child to have access to expert teachers, small class sizes, rich and diverse course offerings, high quality learning materials, equipped science and computer labs, and adequately maintained facilities.

  • Protect Current School Funding: State funding for public schools already falls far short of needs to meet the State's high education standards. We will provide up-to-date reports on State Budget proposals affecting funding for public schools, and fight hard against undue cuts.
  • State Tax Reform: We support all measures to increase revenue streams such as the Oil Severance Tax. Our state currently fall drastically short in collecting enough revenues to fully fund education.
  • Equalization Funding: We seek funding for all school districts to a least 90% of the current statewide average, still significantly below the national average, especially for "low wealth districts" (e.g. poorly funded) such as ours.
  • Local Control for Districts: We support a change to the threshold for approving school parcel taxes to 55%.
  • Declining Enrollment: We want to reduce instability and help maintain effective program by providing a more graduated funding formula to respond to enrollment declines, to avoid abrupt and volatile impacts on curriculum.
  • Special Education: We support efforts to fully fund federal mandated requirements of IDEA.
  • Public School Reform: The Governor and State Legislature commissioned a comprehensive research effort to analyze California's public education system. The resulting 23 "Getting Down to Facts" studies identify the areas for cost-effective reforms to improve schools, administration and student performance. We will advocate for reforms that benefit our school.
